Latest News:
February 10, 2004 12:50pm (Darth Spork) It sure has been awhile since the last update... At anyrate it has finally been anounced. Episodes 4-6 will be coming to DVD September 21, 2004. Thats right we do not have to wait untill Lucas is done with Episode 3. On a bad note the press release from the official site was rather bleak in details. Basicly we are getting a 4 disk set like the Indiana Jones set, with the 3 movie DVD's and a disk of extra features. The moives will also have DD 5.1EX, but alas no DTS. On a bad note they press release did not mention if we are getting the original version of the film, the SE's or some new hacked up version, I guess we will have to wait and see. I shall try to post any new info as it becomes avaible.February 12, 2003 1:15am (Darth Spork) Well it sure has been awhile since my last update, but working 6 day weeks for the last few months, and not really having any news to report sort of does that to you.... Anyway the big news it that Lucas has said that there will be no release of the orignal Star Wars movies on DVD, instead he will release only the SE's (you know the one where Gredo shoots first). This is indeed bad news, unless you sell bootlegs, in which case this is good news because your sales will probally grow 2-3 fold, if not more. So where does this leave fans? You can let Mr Lucas know how pissed off you are by signing this petition to get the Original Trilogy on DVD. Remember the last petition? I got us Star Wars fans Episode 1 on DVD before 2005, so lets get everybody to sign this in the hopes that Mr Lucas will come to his senses and release the original moives on DVD before the next ice age.October 9, 2002 4:15 pm (Darth Spork) First Episode 2 DVD reviews Yeah just when you thought you would never see another update on this site, one just pops up. Todays update covers the reviews of the Episode 2 DVD that will be hitting stores on November 12. September 11, 2002 3:38 pm (Darth Spork) Zowie! An Update
OK eh its been awhile since my last update... Anyway the official release date for Episode 2 on DVD is November 12, which is also the same date as the Lord of the Rings extended 4 disc DVD. People should note that Episode 2 will be in both Pan & Scan as well as wide screen, so make sure to get the wide screen version (the P&S version has cut off about 45% of the video image you saw in the theaters.
July 17, 2002 1:48 pm (Darth Spork) Belated update Yes it has been too long since my last update.. Anyway the good news is that Episode 2: Attack of the Clones should be hitting DVD on November 26 of this year. The Digital Bits has some speculation on what features it might have. No official release date has been set, but something official should be announced soon, so keep your ear open. February 8, 2002 2:48 am (Darth Spork) Still alive! It seams that Lucas will be releasing Episode 2 and 3 like any other new release so expect to see Episode 2 sometime in the fall of 2002 and Episode 3 in the fall of 2005. The orignal trigloy should be out sometime after Lucas is done with Episode 2 and 3, so maybe 2005 or 2006. The latest rumors is that Lucas will be going back and revamping Episodes 4-6 to make them fit better with episodes 1-3. Its going to set ya back $29.98 in the U.S. and $41.98 in Canada. The other big news story running comes from the folks at DVD File. They have an Interview with Jim Ward. This is a must read for Star Wars fans, Jim answers why there is no DTS track, and when we may see the rest of the Star Wars movies on DVD. And as you may have guessed without calling a psychic hot-line the answer to when we may see more Star Wars on DVD is... "no plans for the foreseeable future for the original trilogy". Big suprise eh? Yahoo! News has a press release Here that is worth taking a peek at I also have a new poll up on the left side, so make sure to vote! More forum Madness!: Phantom Menace or Godfather Collection?? Star Wars:Episode 1 on DVD Oct 16! **The One and Only STAR WARS: PHANTOM MENACE Thread** June 19, 2001 10:48pm (Grissem) DVD news partly disappointing... In what was suppose to the biggest day in DVD history, one minor disappointment came about when the features of TPM were announced. Over the last few years, home audio technology has risen to a new peak. Within the later stages of laserdisc, we were given the advancement of the audio market with the introduction of Dolby Digital (commonly referred to as AC3 in the early days). When DVD was brought to the market in 1995/96 the potential of surround sound was huge. DVD continued the laserdisc association with Dolby to bring DD to DVD discs and electronic companies began investing serious money into DD decoders. In 1997/98 DTS Technologies began selling their decoders to electronic companies hoping to dawn a new era. Their arguement was that their technology allowed to for less compression on the audio track thus giving a much richer sound. What sounds like it is a good idea, unfortunatly most video studios did not agree since it took up much more space on the discs. BUT with the recent introduction of DTS-ES, which adds a center rear channel, the debate has been resparked. With movies like "The Haunting" and "Gladiator" released in DTS-ES, it allows the user to realize that this is ultimately the next true step in home theatre. DTS Technologies now has something that truely rivals Dolby with their DD.
Here is where my BIG problem comes into to play with the announcment of TPM on DVD. As you probably have guessed fron my rant, THERE IS NO DTS-ES track let alone a DTS track. Here we have what is easily going to be the best sounding DVD on the market come its release and all we will be able to listen to it is in Dobly Digital. What a big piss off. The really funny thing is that TPM was actually released in theatres with the ES sound track yet all we get a toned down DD track! Think about it... you are watching the pod race... Sebulba is leading as you hear Anakin come in from behind and take the lead. With the rear center channel, this effect would be overwhelming as you would truely hear Anakin shift from left to right, right to left, then overtake the lead... you would hear one beautiful movement without any breaks in sound. Think how crucial the front center channel is and then imagine adding that in the rear just for rear effects. WOW. Now that is technology that was released to the home user LAST YEAR (although most people can't afford it till later this year) and George decided not to use the best possible sound available???? Man... what a waste. Don't get me wrong, I will still truly enjoy the Dolby Digital track but I will be wondering all throughout the movie how great a DTS-ES track would have been!
Thanks for listening to my rant... I am sure eventually I will be able to overcome this... it will just take some time... I hope George proves me wrong in my thoughts by having a really really really kick ass DD track... Here's hopin!
